Macro Eye Photography

I recently got out my old macro-filters for my 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and had a play around with them. They’re not the best quality but they’re a lot of fun and for just playing around they produce some decent results.

I decided to try and get some macro shots of my eye. I set up my camera (Canon 550D – I know it’s getting a little old now but he’s still my baby and I love him) on the tripod with the small LED light I use for videos. Then I connected the camera to my computer so I could frame the shot on there and see what I was doing.

I used the 10X macro filter with the lens fully extended to 135mm which means you can get some great close-up shots… but the depth of field is tiny, so getting your shot in focus is difficult, particularly when you’re the subject!
