It’s that time of year again when Warwick BandSoc starts hosting Battle of the Bands again and they’re, arguably, some of my favourite events of the year! Last Thursday I was lucky enough to be able to go along to the first heat and grab a few photos!
Unfortunately the lighting for the last 3 bands proved a little challenging so I’m quite disappointed with a few of the photos but I think I managed to get a couple of half-decent shots from the night!
As always, it was lovely to see so many people performing who are clearly so passionate about music, 3 acts in particular really stood out and, while I maybe shouldn’t have favourites, I was pretty happy when Asian Death Crustacean won – I’ve seen a few of them perform before (see this album here, you might recognise a few faces) and they really are a talented bunch of guys!
The next band up were Feralsect (go check out their Facebook page here). Again, these guys were really awesome and I enjoyed their performance a lot. It’s a real shame they didn’t get through but they should at least be proud of the really great performance they gave on the night.
Next I’m going to add the photos from both David Poore and Chris Wreaves because the lighting (or lack of it) was so poor that, unfortunately, I didn’t really get too many photos (cue the jokes about a bad photographer always blaming their tools). One thing I will say about these guys is that to get up there and perform by themselves must have been terrifying so good on them for having the guts to do that!
So last but not least we’ve got Brave the Woods who I think, if I’m right, made up (mostly?) of freshers which makes their performance even more impressive. Again, I really enjoyed these guys and they thoroughly deserved to go through the semi-final (good luck to them!).
So there we go, that was the first heat. Many photos, much music and a good night.
You can hear RaW’s awesome recordings from the heat on their website.
